Almora: A three-day awareness and rehabilitation campaign aimed at making Almora district drug-free concluded successfully at the Police Line Auditorium on Wednesday. The campaign was organized jointly by Almora Police and the district administration in collaboration with the “Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous” society. The initiative focused on spreading awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse and encouraging rehabilitation for affected individuals.
The campaign was conducted under the direction of Senior Superintendent of Police चन्द्रशेखर घोडके as part of the “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.” Almora Police has been continuously organizing awareness and rehabilitation programs across the district to involve more people in the anti-drug movement.
As part of the campaign, a special training session was organized on May 14 at the Police Line Auditorium. Police personnel from Almora district and police staff from Kumaon Range joined the session through video conferencing. The participants were trained on rehabilitation measures, public awareness strategies, and methods to increase community participation in anti-drug initiatives.
Addressing the gathering, SSP Chandrashekhar Ghodke highlighted the harmful impact of addiction on individuals, families, and society. He said that substance abuse weakens a person mentally, physically, and financially. He urged police personnel to begin the anti-drug movement from within their own families and communities to bring positive social change.
He emphasized that police are not only responsible for maintaining law and order but also play an important role in social awareness and reform. According to him, collective efforts by society, administration, and social organizations are necessary to effectively combat drug abuse.
During the event, members of the “Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous” society shared their personal experiences. They revealed that they themselves were once victims of addiction but managed to overcome it through determination, family support, and rehabilitation. They said addiction destroys mental health, physical well-being, and financial stability, while also affecting families severely.
The members informed participants that they are now actively working in society to motivate people to stay away from drugs and adopt a healthy lifestyle. Their experiences inspired many attendees during the program.
Almora Police also honored the members of the society with mementos for their contribution to the “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan” and their efforts in spreading awareness against addiction. Police officials appreciated their social service and commitment toward helping others recover from substance abuse.
A major achievement of the campaign was that five individuals from Almora district voluntarily came forward and initiated their rehabilitation process by contacting the “Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous” society. They also pledged to actively participate in making Almora a drug-free district.
On the occasion, the Red Cross Society Almora assured full support to the anti-drug campaign in collaboration with Almora Police and the rehabilitation society. The event was attended by CO बलवन्त सिंह रावत, Reserve Inspector Ramesh Chandra, ANTF In-charge and PRO Rahul Rathi, SOG In-charge Sunil Dhanik, Assistant Social Welfare Officer Chandra, along with police personnel and members of the rehabilitation society.
