Almora: In a development that has created a stir in local political circles, Vandana Verma, Councillor from Ward No. 02 Selakholaa of Almora Municipal Corporation, has resigned from her position as the District Civic Body Cell’s Co-Convenor (Maha-Sanyojika) of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
In her resignation letter dated August 15, 2026, addressed to BJP District President Mahesh Nayaal and Uttarakhand state minister of state status Govind Pilkhwal, Verma stated that she had been repeatedly subjected to neglect and felt insulted by certain people associated with the party.
Verma said that she was elected as a public representative from Selakholaa as an independent candidate with the support of the residents of her ward. She later accepted the responsibility given to her by the BJP in the District Civic Body Cell and said that she respected the organisation’s decision.
However, according to her resignation letter, certain people who joined the party repeatedly ignored her and made her feel humiliated. She stated that she had brought the matter to the attention of concerned persons earlier, but no action was taken.
Citing self-respect as the reason for her decision, Verma said she was resigning from the post of Maha-Sanyojika of the Civic Body Cell.
Importantly, the resignation letter does not state that Verma has resigned from the primary membership of the BJP. Her resignation, as stated in the letter, is specifically from the organisational post assigned to her.
