Almora. Ahead of Independence Day and the historic Nanda Devi Fair, repair work has been carried out in Lala Bazaar, one of Almora’s prominent and traditional market areas. Taking note of the damaged stone slabs that had been causing inconvenience to pedestrians, Ward Councillor Kuldeep Singh ‘Mer Kammu’ initiated the repair work through the Almora Municipal Corporation.
Lala Bazaar witnesses a significant increase in footfall during the Nanda Devi Fair, with local residents, devotees and tourists visiting the area. Several damaged and uneven stone slabs had been creating difficulties for pedestrians, particularly during the rainy season. Considering the expected movement of people during the upcoming celebrations and fair, their repair was considered necessary.
Councillor Kuldeep Singh ‘Mer Kammu’ raised the issue with the municipal authorities and requested that the damaged slabs be repaired before the major public events. Following the initiative, the Almora Municipal Corporation carried out the necessary repair work at the identified locations.
The councillor said that maintaining public pathways and basic civic infrastructure should remain a priority, particularly during major festivals and public events when the number of visitors increases considerably. He added that problems related to public facilities in the ward would continue to be raised with the concerned departments for timely resolution.
The repair work has brought relief to local shopkeepers and pedestrians. Traders in the area said that Lala Bazaar becomes particularly crowded during the Nanda Devi Fair, and properly maintained pedestrian pathways would make movement safer and more convenient for residents as well as visitors.
The Nanda Devi Fair holds an important place in Almora’s cultural and religious traditions and attracts people from different parts of the region. With Independence Day and the fair approaching, civic authorities and local representatives are focusing on improving basic arrangements in important market areas.
Councillor Kuldeep Singh ‘Mer Kammu’ said that efforts would continue to address other civic issues in the area as well. He also appreciated the cooperation of the Almora Municipal Corporation in carrying out the repair work.
The repair of the damaged slabs in Lala Bazaar is expected to improve pedestrian movement and provide greater convenience to the public during the upcoming Independence Day celebrations and Nanda Devi Fair.
