Almora – In a proactive step towards fire safety preparedness, a mock drill was conducted today at Govind Ballabh Pant Himalayan Environment Institute, Almora under the leadership of Fire Officer Shri Mahesh Chandra. The exercise was organized by the Fire Service Unit, aiming to educate the institute’s staff on fire safety protocols and emergency response.
During the drill, female firefighter Menika Chauhan provided valuable insights on different types of fire and the corresponding methods to extinguish them. She also demonstrated the operation of basic fire safety equipment such as fire extinguishers and water mist systems, enabling the staff to understand their practical use in emergencies.
As part of the mock scenario, a fire was simulated using petrol, which was then effectively extinguished using fire extinguishers and water mist. Midway through the drill, it was reported that one staff member was missing from the premises. This information was promptly relayed to the search and rescue team, who conducted a thorough search, successfully located the individual, and carried out a rescue operation.
The rescued individual was then examined by firefighter Menika Chauhan, who performed a preliminary health check. Upon assessing the situation as serious, the person was transported to the hospital for further medical attention.
Following the completion of the mock drill, Fire Officer Mahesh Chandra addressed the institute’s staff and explained various methods of controlling fires, particularly those caused by domestic LPG cylinders. He also shared important fire prevention tips and rescue guidelines, stressing the need for awareness, readiness, and quick action in emergency situations.
The drill concluded with a strong message about the importance of regular fire safety training and preparedness to minimize risk and protect lives.
