Danya, Almora: Political activity intensified in the Jageshwar Assembly constituency on Saturday when Youth Congress workers staged a black flag protest during Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s visit to Danya. Protesters raised slogans of “CM Go Back” and expressed their dissatisfaction over several issues concerning the youth of Uttarakhand.
According to Youth Congress leaders, the protest was organized to highlight concerns related to unemployment, alleged examination paper leaks, recruitment irregularities, inflation, corruption, deteriorating infrastructure, and crimes against women. Following the demonstration, police detained several Youth Congress leaders and workers.
Those reportedly detained included Youth Congress leader Gopal Bhatt, District President Vikram Singh Fartyal, State General Secretary Pradeep Bisht, Jageshwar Assembly Youth Congress President Virendra Singh Malada, Gaurav Satwal, Block President Rajkamal, Rohit Pant and several other party workers.
Speaking after the incident, Gopal Bhatt alleged that the state government was unwilling to answer questions being raised by the youth. He claimed that instead of addressing concerns regarding employment opportunities and transparency in recruitment processes, the administration was attempting to suppress dissent through police action.
Youth Congress leaders questioned the government’s handling of alleged paper leak cases and recruitment scams. They also raised concerns about unemployment and demanded stronger measures to ensure women’s safety across the state.
The organization stated that democratic protest is a constitutional right and maintained that detentions would not discourage its campaign. Youth Congress announced plans to launch awareness drives across villages and intensify its movement in support of youth rights and employment opportunities.
The protest remained largely peaceful, with police maintaining security arrangements throughout the Chief Minister’s visit. Youth Congress leaders indicated that further agitations could be organized if their demands remain unaddressed.
Several party office-bearers and workers were present during the demonstration, making it one of the most significant youth-led protests witnessed in the region during the Chief Minister’s visit.
