Almora: Advocate Vinod Chandra Tiwari and social worker Neema Arya have submitted a memorandum through the District Magistrate of Almora to the Prime Minister of India and the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, demanding permanent recognition and memorialization of Martyr Lieutenant Vireshwar Goswami.
In the memorandum, they stated that Lieutenant Vireshwar Goswami made the supreme sacrifice while defending the nation. Such brave soldiers deserve lasting recognition, not merely ceremonial tributes. Their courage, patriotism, and dedication should continue to inspire future generations.
The memorandum demands the installation of a life-size statue of the martyr at a prominent public location in Almora. It also calls for the construction of a grand memorial dedicated to his life and sacrifice. According to the petitioners, such a memorial would serve as a symbol of patriotism and inspire young people to serve the nation.
They have further requested that a public park, road, educational institution, or any significant public facility be named after Lieutenant Vireshwar Goswami. This, they believe, would ensure that his contribution to the nation remains alive in public memory.
Advocate Vinod Chandra Tiwari said that a few days ago, he, along with social worker Vinay Kiraula and several others, visited the martyr’s family to express their condolences. During the visit, the martyr’s parents expressed their desire that their son’s sacrifice should receive permanent recognition and respect from society and the government.
Tiwari stated that he assured the family that their sentiments and demands would be conveyed to the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister. The submission of the memorandum is a continuation of that commitment.
Neema Arya emphasized that a nation’s strength lies in the courage and dedication of its soldiers. When a soldier lays down his life for the country, his sacrifice should be commemorated through meaningful and lasting initiatives rather than remaining limited to words of tribute.
The memorandum also seeks the organization of an annual state-level tribute ceremony in memory of the martyr. Such events, it states, would help preserve the legacy of brave soldiers and strengthen patriotic values among younger generations.
The petitioners expressed hope that both the Central and State Governments would respect public sentiments and take positive steps toward honoring the martyr. They noted that the nation will always remain indebted to its brave soldiers, and preserving their memory is both a moral and national responsibility.
Several citizens and social organizations have extended support to the demand, stating that permanent memorials dedicated to heroes like Lieutenant Vireshwar Goswami would serve as enduring symbols of sacrifice, courage, and national pride.
