Oath-taking and Badge Investiture Ceremony Highlights Leadership, Innovation and Democratic Values
Almora: Demonstrating an inspiring blend of technology, innovation and democratic values, Springdale School, Almora, organized its Student Council Oath-taking and Badge Investiture Ceremony for the academic session 2026-27 on Saturday with great enthusiasm and dignity. The event became a unique celebration of student leadership as the school conducted its entire Student Council election through a Digital Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) designed and developed by its own students using software technology.
The initiative reflected the school’s commitment to providing practical exposure to democratic principles while encouraging students to apply their technological skills in real-life situations. The digital voting process ensured a transparent, fair and efficient election, offering students a firsthand understanding of the electoral system.
The ceremony was attended by Bhupendra Singh Bhoj ‘Guddu’, President of the District Congress Committee, Almora, as the Chief Guest. Nirmal Rawat, District Congress Spokesperson, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. The dignitaries were warmly welcomed by the school management, faculty members and students.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Bhupendra Singh Bhoj congratulated the newly elected Student Council members and personally adorned them with badges before administering their responsibilities. He emphasized that leadership is not merely about holding a position but about serving others with honesty, compassion and dedication.
He encouraged the student leaders to become responsible representatives who understand the concerns of their fellow students and communicate them respectfully to teachers and the school administration. According to him, true leadership is built on trust, integrity, teamwork and the willingness to work for the welfare of others.
He further stated that schools are the best places to nurture future leaders and responsible citizens. Opportunities like student council elections prepare young minds to understand accountability, democratic participation and public service from an early age.
School Principal Jyotsna Sohanlal welcomed the guests and highlighted the importance of introducing democratic practices at the school level. She said that India is one of the youngest nations in the world, and the country’s future leadership rests on today’s youth. Therefore, it is essential to familiarize students with democratic systems during their formative years.
She remarked that the objective of organizing Student Council elections is not only to select student representatives but also to cultivate leadership qualities, discipline, confidence, decision-making ability and a sense of responsibility among students.
Speaking about the school’s innovative initiative, the Principal appreciated the students for designing and developing the Digital EVM themselves. She described it as a remarkable example of creativity, technical excellence and collaborative learning. She added that integrating technology with democratic education enables students to become future-ready citizens capable of contributing meaningfully to society.
One of the most remarkable aspects of this year’s election was that students from Classes IV to XII actively participated in the voting process. Every eligible student exercised his or her voting rights through the Digital EVM, making the election inclusive and participatory.
The digital voting system functioned smoothly throughout the election and successfully demonstrated how technology can strengthen transparency and efficiency in institutional decision-making. Students experienced the complete electoral process—from campaigning and voting to the declaration of results—in a practical and engaging manner.
The newly elected Student Council members pledged to uphold the values of discipline, honesty, cooperation and responsibility while working for the welfare of the student community. They promised to maintain effective communication between students and the school administration and to contribute positively towards the overall development of the institution.
During the ceremony, the school’s NCC cadets were honoured with certificates in recognition of their outstanding discipline, dedication and service. Their achievements were appreciated by the guests, who encouraged them to continue serving society and the nation with commitment.
The school also assigned important administrative and academic responsibilities to members of the teaching staff to strengthen institutional management and ensure the smooth conduct of various educational and co-curricular activities throughout the academic year.
The programme reflected the school’s holistic educational philosophy, where academic excellence is complemented by leadership development, civic awareness, innovation and character building.
The event was confidently and gracefully compered by students Inika and Kairavi, whose excellent stage management and communication skills were widely appreciated by the audience.
In her concluding remarks, Principal Jyotsna Sohanlal expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour, teachers, parents, staff members and students for making the programme a grand success. She encouraged the newly elected council members to perform their duties with sincerity, fairness and commitment while inspiring fellow students through their conduct and actions.
The ceremony concluded with the National Anthem, leaving everyone with a renewed sense of responsibility, patriotism and democratic spirit. The successful use of a student-developed Digital EVM stood out as the defining feature of the event, symbolizing how education, technology and democracy can come together to prepare young learners for the challenges and responsibilities of the future.
