Almora : The second day of Kumaon Mahotsav 2026 and the first day of its much-awaited Star Night concluded successfully on Sunday amid great enthusiasm and cultural fervor. The event witnessed a large gathering of local residents, tourists, artists, and cultural enthusiasts.
The programme was formally inaugurated by Chief Guest Manmohan Chaudhary, who cut the ceremonial ribbon to mark the beginning of the day’s celebrations. Bhupendra Waldia attended the event as the Guest of Honour. Kumaon Mahotsav President Rajendra Tiwari, Chief Coordinator Harish Kanwal, noted theatre artist Devendra Bhatt (Ricky Bhai), Shamshad Pithoragarhi, and several distinguished guests were also present.
The event commenced with an Open Mic session, providing a platform for emerging talents to showcase their creativity through poetry, singing, storytelling, and other performances. The audience appreciated the participants and encouraged them with enthusiastic applause.
Following the Open Mic session, the final round of the Musical Instruments Competition was held. Participants displayed remarkable skills on various instruments. Organizers announced that the results of the competition would be declared on the concluding day of the festival.
As the evening progressed, the Star Night segment captivated the audience. Popular Uttarakhand folk singer Rakesh Khanwal, widely known for hit songs such as Cream Powder, Mohana Madhuli, Kala Suit, Himali, and Hit Madhu, delivered an energetic performance that kept the audience entertained throughout the evening. His songs received an overwhelming response, with spectators singing along and dancing to the tunes.
The cultural evening was further enriched by performances from renowned artists Gopal Chamyal and Vicky Gatiyar, who presented a series of melodious songs and entertained the crowd with their captivating stage presence.
Another major highlight of the programme was a Yoga Dance performance by Navika Jaira. Her graceful blend of yoga postures and dance movements impressed the audience and earned widespread appreciation.
During the event, Ramesh Nandi, sponsor of the Open Mic programme, was honoured for his valuable contribution and support towards promoting local talent and cultural activities.
Speaking on the occasion, organizers emphasized that Kumaon Mahotsav serves as an important platform for preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of the Kumaon region. They also informed that several more cultural programmes, competitions, and star performances are scheduled during the upcoming days of the festival.
The first day of Star Night concluded on a high note, leaving the audience eagerly awaiting the next cultural celebrations of Kumaon Mahotsav 2026.
