Councilor Vandana Verma Calls Forest Department to the Spot
Almora. Panic spread among residents of the Chaughanpata area after a leopard was spotted near the Maina Road–Gym stretch over the past two days. Locals reported seeing the leopard walking along the roadside in the evening and immediately informed Ward Councilor Vandana Verma.
Upon receiving the information, Councilor Verma promptly alerted the Forest Department. A team led by Forest Inspector Negi reached the location and conducted a detailed inspection of the area. During the investigation, the team found signs of wildlife activity on two occasions, following which a camera trap was installed for monitoring as a precautionary measure.
According to the Forest Department, the camera surveillance will help assess the leopard’s movement and confirm its presence. The team has intensified patrolling in the surrounding areas and urged residents to avoid walking alone during early morning and evening hours. They have also advised people to keep a close watch on children and pets.
Local residents have appreciated the swift action taken by Councilor Vandana Verma and the Forest Department. Officials have assured that all necessary steps are being taken to guide the wild animal safely back to the forest and ensure the safety of the community.
