Almora. A delegation of all council members met the newly appointed District Magistrate on Tuesday to discuss several long-pending civic issues of public interest. The councillors welcomed the District Magistrate and extended their best wishes for his tenure. This was followed by a detailed discussion on various challenges currently facing the town.
The primary issue raised by the councillors was the urgent appointment of a Municipal Commissioner. They stated that the absence of a Commissioner has severely affected essential services such as sanitation, construction work, water supply, and other daily municipal functions. According to them, appointing the Municipal Commissioner at the earliest would ensure faster execution of administrative tasks and timely completion of pending works.
The growing monkey menace in both rural and densely populated urban areas was also discussed in detail. Councillors informed the District Magistrate that the increasing presence of monkeys has caused distress to residents and traders alike. They suggested convening a joint meeting of the Forest Department and the Municipal Corporation to launch a coordinated campaign for capturing and controlling the monkey population.
The District Magistrate listened to all issues attentively and assured the delegation that the appointment of the Municipal Commissioner, along with other highlighted concerns, would be addressed on a priority basis. He added that the administration is sensitive to public concerns and will take concrete steps for early resolution.
The councillors expressed hope that through the cooperation of the administration and public representatives, the town’s problems will be resolved swiftly and urban services will significantly improve.
