Citizens submit memorandum to Municipal Commissioner; local councillors join public demand

Residents of Rajpur, Niyaganj, Dharanaula and Lal Bazaar have urged the Almora Municipal Corporation to reopen the alternative two-wheeler route connecting Gopaldhara and Dhungadhara. A memorandum was submitted to the Municipal Commissioner demanding the removal of the gate installed near 52 Seedhi (52 Steps).
According to the residents, the route has served as the shortest and most convenient access road for years. Its closure has forced commuters, shopkeepers, students, office-goers and senior citizens to travel longer distances, resulting in additional travel time and fuel expenses.
The memorandum states that the closure has caused inconvenience to thousands of residents and that any decision affecting such an important public route should have been taken only after consultation with all stakeholders.
The residents appealed to the Municipal Commissioner to remove the gate and restore public access at the earliest in the larger public interest.
Municipal councillors Advocate Mukesh Kumar (Danny), Vikas Kumar Arya, Kuldeep Singh Mer (Kammu) and Intekhab Alam Qureshi (Paband) were also present with the residents during the submission of the memorandum and supported the demand for an early resolution.
The residents expressed hope that the Municipal Corporation would take a positive decision and restore the route for public convenience.
