Almora-based senior BJP leader and youth icon Kundan Latwal has been appointed as the Vice Chairman of the Uttarakhand State Youth Welfare Advisory Council with the rank of Minister of State. The appointment is being viewed as recognition of his long-standing contribution to youth leadership, organizational development, student politics, and public service.
Expressing gratitude to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Latwal said that the responsibility entrusted to him is both an honor and a commitment toward the youth of Uttarakhand. He assured that he would work tirelessly to strengthen youth welfare initiatives and ensure effective implementation of government programs.
A resident of Lodhiya in Almora district, Kundan Latwal began his public life as a volunteer in 1997. Over the years, he received extensive ideological and organizational training through various educational camps and leadership programs.
His journey in the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) was marked by steady growth. He served as Nagar Mantri, Co-District Convener, District Convener, State Executive Member, and State Joint Secretary. During his tenure, he actively worked on student welfare issues and organizational expansion.
Latwal’s student political career gained momentum when he was elected unopposed as Vice President of Soban Singh Jeena Campus, Almora, in 2004-05. He later served as President of the campus students’ union and played an important role in university-level student movements. He was also associated with the Kumaun University Students Federation and coordinated major student campaigns.
Beyond student politics, Latwal has remained actively involved in social and educational initiatives. From 2009 to 2013, he served as President of the Parents’ Association of Government Inter College, Lodhiya. His efforts focused on improving educational participation and strengthening community engagement.
In local governance, he served as a District Panchayat Member from Khatyari and later chaired important committees related to development and planning. His contribution during the devastating 2010 disaster in Uttarakhand was widely appreciated, as he actively participated in relief and rehabilitation efforts.
Within the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), Latwal held several significant positions. He served as District General Secretary, State Legal Convener, and later became the State President of BJYM Uttarakhand in 2016. Under his leadership, the organization expanded its outreach among young people and launched several campaigns related to employment, education, and youth empowerment.
He also handled key responsibilities during elections in Uttarakhand, Haryana, West Bengal, Delhi, and other states. His organizational skills and grassroots connect earned him recognition within the party structure.
Academically, Kundan Latwal possesses a diverse educational background. He holds degrees in Law (LLB), Science (M.Sc.), Education (M.Ed. and M.A. in Education), has qualified U-SET, and also studied Journalism. His educational achievements reflect his commitment to continuous learning and leadership development.
Political observers believe that his appointment will strengthen the government’s engagement with youth and help bridge the gap between policy formulation and grassroots implementation. With decades of experience in public life, student leadership, social service, and political organization, Kundan Latwal is expected to play a significant role in advancing youth welfare initiatives across Uttarakhand.
His appointment has been welcomed by party workers, social organizations, educational institutions, and supporters across the state, who view it as a recognition of dedication, hard work, and sustained commitment to public service.
