Temple Committee and Devotees Reach Pandekhola; Procession to Begin at 6 AM on Friday
Almora: The religious traditions associated with the historic Nanda Devi Fair continued in Almora on Thursday as members of the Nanda Devi Temple Committee and a large number of devotees reached Pandekhola.
As part of the traditional rituals, the kadali trees were formally invited to come to the Nanda Devi Temple. A religious ceremony and worship were performed according to customary rituals, with devotees praying for the prosperity, well-being and happiness of the region and the state.
The worship of the kadali trees is an important part of the traditional religious observances associated with the Nanda Devi Fair. The ceremony at Pandekhola was conducted amid an atmosphere of devotion, with a large number of devotees participating in the rituals.
According to the temple committee, the kadali trees will be brought from Pandekhola to the Nanda Devi Temple at 6 am on Friday. A traditional religious procession will accompany the trees, with devotees expected to participate in the procession as part of the customary celebrations.
After the kadali trees reach the temple premises, the traditional process of preparing the idol of Goddess Nanda Devi will begin. The ritual marks an important stage in the religious proceedings associated with the annual fair.
The event has generated considerable enthusiasm among devotees. The traditional ceremony provides an opportunity for local residents and visitors to participate in and witness an important aspect of Almora’s religious and cultural heritage.
Those who participated in the visit to Pandekhola included Pandit Tara Chandra Joshi, Pandit Pramod Pathak, Pandit Shekhar Chandra Mishra, Pandit Vinod Joshi, Rajpurohit Nagesh Pant, Harish Pant, organiser Narendra Verma ‘Munna’, Mayor Ajay Verma, Minister of State Ganga Bisht, Secretary Manoj Sanwal, Councillor Amit Sah ‘Monu’, Chief Cultural Coordinator Arjun Bisht ‘Cheema’, Councillor Abhishek Joshi, Councillor Kamlesh Mer, idol coordinator Ravi Goyal, Ravi Kannaujia, Naman Bisht, Sanjay Sah, Harish Bisht, Hemlata Verma, Kiran Sah, Rajni Pant, Deepa Pandey, Beena Nyal, Anju Bisht and Poonam Tripathi, along with dozens of devotees.
Local residents Manish Pathak, Hemlata Pathak, Jagdish Upadhyay and Bhagwati Upadhyay also participated in the worship ceremony.
With Thursday’s rituals completed, preparations have been finalised for Friday morning’s procession. The arrival of the kadali trees at the Nanda Devi Temple will mark the beginning of the traditional idol-making process, further advancing the religious ceremonies of the historic Nanda Devi Fair.
