Festival Opens with Traditional Lamp Lighting; Religious and Cultural Events to Continue
Almora: The historic and renowned Nanda Devi Fair formally began in Almora on Wednesday with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony. The inauguration marked the beginning of one of the city’s significant religious and cultural events, with elected representatives, administrative officials, members of the fair committee and a large number of local residents attending the programme.
The inaugural event was attended by Member of Parliament Ajay Tamta, MLA Manoj Tiwari, Almora Mayor Ajay Verma, Minister of State Kundan Latawal, Govind Pilkhwal, Ganga Bisht, former MLAs Kailash Sharma and Raghunath Singh Chauhan, former municipal chairpersons Prakash Joshi and Shobha Joshi, ADM Sanjay Kumar and several other dignitaries.
Fair Committee President Manoj Verma, Secretary Manoj Sanwal, Chief Cultural Coordinator Arjun Singh Bisht Cheema and Fair Coordinator Tarachandra Joshi welcomed the guests during the inauguration.
The ceremony was marked by an atmosphere of devotion towards Goddess Nanda Devi. With the formal opening of the fair, Almora has begun to take on a festive appearance, while devotees and visitors from different areas have started arriving in the town.
