Congress aspirant questions BJP government’s zero-tolerance policy; anti-corruption march announced in Someshwar
Someshwar/Almora: Dr Ajay Pal, a Congress aspirant from the Someshwar Assembly constituency, has questioned the BJP government over allegations of corruption linked to Cabinet Minister Rekha Arya and her departments. He has demanded an impartial investigation into allegations concerning alleged illegal assets worth ₹210 crore, reportedly raised in a recently released video by businessman Girdhari Lal Sahu, who is connected to the minister’s family.
Dr Pal questioned why the allegations had not yet resulted in a clear public account of the steps being taken by the government and the relevant investigative agencies. He called for an independent investigation and said appropriate legal action should follow if the allegations are substantiated.
The Congress leader also questioned the functioning of central investigative agencies, arguing that allegations involving people associated with the ruling establishment should be examined with the same impartiality and seriousness as cases involving opposition leaders.
He said the BJP government’s stated policy of zero tolerance towards corruption should be reflected in transparent action. Dr Pal also demanded an inquiry into alleged irregularities in development works carried out in the Someshwar constituency.
Highlighting local concerns, he said several villages in the region continue to face challenges related to roads, electricity, drinking water and education. He argued that residents deserve clarity on how public funds allocated for development are being utilised and whether government schemes are reaching the intended beneficiaries.
Dr Pal announced that an anti-corruption march would be held in Someshwar’s main market on Tuesday, October 20. He claimed that a large number of men and women would participate in the demonstration.
According to Dr Pal, the proposed march aims to demand an impartial investigation into the allegations and draw attention to public concerns regarding development and accountability. He urged the government and the relevant authorities to establish the facts through a transparent process.
The allegations have not been independently verified in this report. Their veracity would need to be established through an impartial investigation. A response from the minister and other concerned parties, along with any official investigation status, would be necessary for a comprehensive account of the matter.
The issue has brought renewed attention to demands for transparency, accountability and equal application of the law in matters involving allegations of corruption.
