Almora: Almora District Magistrate Anshul Singh has expressed serious concern over the increasing incidents of forest fires in the district and appealed to residents to actively cooperate in protecting forests. He stated that preventing forest fires is not solely the responsibility of government agencies, but a collective duty of every citizen.
The District Magistrate said that forest fire incidents are becoming a major threat to the environment, forest resources, wildlife, and human life. He urged people to avoid any negligence near forest areas and immediately inform the concerned department or authorities in case of any fire incident.
He informed that five cases have been registered today against unidentified persons in connection with forest fire incidents in the district. The DM warned that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found involved in causing forest fires or acting negligently.
Anshul Singh stated that even minor carelessness can lead to massive destruction. Throwing burning cigarette butts, setting dry grass on fire, or careless handling of flammable material near forests can trigger devastating wildfires. He appealed to people to remain vigilant and responsible.
The District Magistrate directed concerned departmental officials to work with full alertness and preparedness. Instructions have been issued to strengthen monitoring in sensitive forest areas, ensure rapid response to fire incidents, and intensify public awareness campaigns regarding forest fire prevention.
During his field visit, the DM also interacted with villagers and passersby to spread awareness about forest fire risks. He emphasized that protecting forests means protecting the environment and future generations. He urged citizens to actively participate in safeguarding natural resources.
He further said that climate change and rising temperatures have increased the risk of forest fires, making public cooperation more important than ever. He stressed that coordinated efforts between the administration, forest department, local communities, and social organizations are essential for effectively controlling forest fire incidents.
The District Magistrate reiterated that the administration is fully committed to preventing forest fires and ensuring strict action against those responsible for damaging forest resources.
