In view of the ongoing tourist season and increasing traffic movement, Almora Police has intensified its campaign against traffic rule violators across the district. Under the “Operation Prahar” drive launched on the instructions of Chandrashekhar Ghodke, police teams carried out extensive checking operations against vehicles with illegal black films, motorcycles fitted with retro silencers, and rash drivers.
The campaign was conducted under the guidance of Harbans Singh and under the supervision of CO Almora and Traffic Incharge Balwant Singh Rawat. Police teams from all police stations, outposts, and traffic units conducted intensive checking at various locations across the district.
Officials stated that tourist season leads to increased vehicular movement, putting additional pressure on traffic management and public safety. To maintain smooth traffic flow and law and order, police carried out special checking drives in crowded markets, highways, and important routes.
During the campaign, Kotwali Ranikhet Police removed illegal black films from two vehicles, while Bhatarojkhan Police and Traffic Police removed black films from one vehicle each. In total, black films were removed from four cars, and challans were issued against the vehicle owners under the Motor Vehicles Act.
Police officials said that illegal black films pose security concerns and make surveillance difficult for law enforcement agencies. According to traffic regulations and Supreme Court guidelines, the use of heavily tinted black films beyond the permissible limit is prohibited.
Meanwhile, Traffic Police seized two motorcycles fitted with retro silencers. Authorities said that retro silencers create excessive noise pollution, causing inconvenience to the public and disturbing peace in residential and sensitive areas such as schools and hospitals.
Police further stated that such modified silencers are often used for stunt riding and reckless driving, increasing the chances of road accidents. Therefore, strict action is being taken against such violations.
Apart from this, two vehicles involved in dangerous and rash driving were also seized during the operation. Officials warned that reckless driving is one of the leading causes of road accidents and strict action against violators will continue in the future as well.
During the district-wide campaign, action was taken against a total of 96 vehicle drivers under the Motor Vehicles Act. Violations included driving without helmets, not wearing seat belts, overspeeding, driving in the wrong direction, and incomplete vehicle documents.
Almora Police clarified that the main objective of the campaign is not only enforcement but also spreading awareness about road safety and traffic discipline. Citizens have been urged to follow traffic rules, use helmets and seat belts, and maintain discipline on roads to prevent accidents and ensure safe travel for everyone.
Police officials have warned that “Operation Prahar” will continue in the coming days and strict legal action will be taken against those violating traffic rules.
