Ahead of the upcoming monsoon season, the district administration in Tanakpur has intensified preparations to tackle possible disasters and waterlogging problems in the region. Manish Kumar chaired a public grievance meeting at the Chief Minister’s Camp Office in Tanakpur, where local representatives and village heads highlighted several civic and developmental issues related to drainage, irrigation, roads, culverts, and flood protection works.
During the meeting, representatives from various villages including Manihargoth, Uchauligoth, Gyankheda, Naulapani, Pachpakariya, and Thapliyalkheda raised concerns regarding blocked drains, damaged culverts, water accumulation on roads, lack of irrigation facilities, and the need for check dams and wire crates in vulnerable areas.
The District Magistrate reviewed each issue department-wise and directed concerned officials to ensure immediate and time-bound action. He emphasized that no waterlogging situation should arise during the monsoon and instructed all departments to complete preventive preparations well in advance.
Responding to complaints from Manihargoth regarding poor drainage facilities, the DM instructed the Irrigation Department and the Block Development Officer to conduct an on-site inspection and initiate necessary measures immediately. He also directed the District Disaster Management Officer to regularly monitor the progress of all works and submit detailed reports.
Manish Kumar stated that disaster preparedness is directly linked to public safety and cannot be treated casually. He warned officials against negligence and said accountability would be fixed if public grievances remained unresolved.
On the demand for hume pipes in Uchauligoth, the District Magistrate instructed the concerned departments to prioritize the work to ensure smooth drainage and uninterrupted rural connectivity during heavy rains.
Complaints regarding blocked drains and culverts in Manihargoth and Gyankheda were also taken seriously. The DM ordered the deployment of JCB machines for immediate cleaning operations and directed officials to identify vulnerable points before the onset of monsoon.
Development-related proposals were also discussed during the meeting. The village head of Danda Malla demanded the establishment of an open gym for rural youth. The DM directed the Block Development Officer and District Youth Welfare Officer to prepare a proposal for the same.
Similarly, on the demand for a check dam in Naulapani, the Chief Agriculture Officer was instructed to prepare a proposal under the SARA scheme on a priority basis. In Pachpakariya, where around 800 meters of road reportedly faces severe waterlogging, officials were directed to ensure an early solution.
The demand for installing wire crates in Thapliyalkheda to prevent soil erosion and possible flood damage was also discussed. The District Magistrate instructed the Irrigation Department to begin protective works immediately and warned that negligence in disaster-prone areas would not be tolerated.
The DM further directed all departments to inspect sensitive locations across the Tanakpur-Banbasa region and complete all preventive and relief-related works before the monsoon arrives. He stressed the importance of coordination among departments to ensure public safety during the rainy season.
The meeting was attended by MLA representative Deepak Rajwar, Block Development Officer Ashok Adhikari, District Disaster Management Officer Devendra Patwal, Assistant Engineer of Irrigation Manoj Tiwari, along with several officials, public representatives, and local residents.
