Almora: A three-day IRISE Workshop for Science and Mathematics teachers, jointly organized by IISER Pune and SCERT Uttarakhand, commenced on Tuesday at the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Almora.
The workshop was inaugurated by DIET Principal Mahendra Singh Bhandari and Senior Lecturer Dr. Bhuvan Chandra Pandey by lighting the ceremonial lamp. District Coordinator Dr. Kamlesh Siradi, subject experts, and Science and Mathematics teachers from various schools across the district participated in the inaugural session.
Addressing the participants, the speakers emphasized the need to adopt innovative and activity-based teaching methods to make Science and Mathematics more engaging, practical, and student-friendly. They highlighted that the IRISE workshop aims to strengthen scientific temperament, creativity, and innovation among teachers.
Five academic sessions were conducted on the first day. The inaugural session, “Workshop Introduction,” was led by Ankit Joshi, who explained the objectives, structure, and expected outcomes of the programme. The second session, “Mathematical Connection,” by Devesh Kumar Tiwari, focused on linking mathematical concepts with everyday life and interdisciplinary learning.
In the third session, “Chemistry Around Us,” Ankit Joshi demonstrated how everyday phenomena can be used to explain chemical concepts effectively in classrooms. The fourth session, “Ecosystem,” conducted by Girish Chandra Mathpal, emphasized activity-based teaching of ecological concepts and environmental relationships.
The final session, “Reflection,” facilitated by Nimmi Bisht, encouraged participants to reflect on the day’s learning, share their experiences, and discuss practical ways of implementing innovative teaching strategies in their schools.
Teachers actively participated in all sessions and interactive activities. The remaining two days of the workshop will focus on enhancing science and mathematics teaching through innovative, activity-based, and student-centric pedagogical approaches.
