Rural Women Take a Remarkable Step Towards a Healthy Body, Empowered Mind, and Self-Reliant Future
Almora,
On the occasion of International Yoga Day, various development blocks of Almora district — including Bhikiyasain, Lamgada, Takula, Dhauladevi, and Bhaisiyachhana — celebrated the day with great enthusiasm. Women associated with the REAP Project (Rural Enterprise Acceleration Programme) and local school children actively participated in the celebrations.
During the event, participants engaged in group yoga sessions and shared their personal experiences, highlighting how yoga has brought mental peace, inner strength, and physical well-being into their lives. The women noted that by making yoga a part of their daily routine, they are not only becoming healthier but also mentally stronger and more self-reliant.
A special program was organized in the Dhauladevi block at the renowned Jageshwar Dham, within the Jageshwar Temple Prasadam complex, where alongside yoga practice, stalls featuring local products were set up. These stalls reflected the entrepreneurial spirit of rural women and promoted their locally made goods.
This year’s Yoga Day in Almora became a symbol of new energy, unity, and collective awareness. It demonstrated that when tradition, yoga, and rural entrepreneurship come together, they can provide a new direction for the hill regions.
The women associated with the REAP Project conveyed a strong message — that yoga is not merely a physical exercise, but a powerful path toward inner strength and self-reliance. They echoed the belief:
“A healthy body and an empowered mind build the foundation of a self-reliant future.”
Hundreds participated in the yoga camps organized across the district, but the most notable aspect was the enthusiastic involvement of rural women and children, which transformed the celebration into a grassroots movement.
