State Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Rekha Arya on Thursday honoured the winner and runner-up teams of the Makar Sankranti Cricket Tournament organised at village Govindpur in the Someshwar Assembly constituency. Addressing the gathering, the Cabinet Minister said that the state government is continuously expanding sports infrastructure and special emphasis is now being laid on developing playgrounds and mini stadiums even in remote villages.
Minister Rekha Arya said that a strong sports culture is gradually developing in Uttarakhand and youths from hilly regions should adopt sports not only as a hobby but also as a career option. She informed that the state government has introduced provisions such as out-of-turn government jobs for medal winners and four percent reservation in government services for sportspersons, ensuring that talented players no longer need to worry about their future.
During the programme, the Cabinet Minister felicitated the players of the winning and runner-up teams of the tournament. She also honoured youths who recently won medals at national-level competitions by presenting them with medals and congratulated them for their achievements. She encouraged the players to continue their hard work and discipline to reach greater heights in sports.
On this occasion, BJP District President Mahesh Nayal, Mandal President Ganesh Jalal, District Panchayat Member Pushpa Arya, MLA’s representative Bhuvan Joshi, Gopal Kholia, Ashok Jalal, Rahul Kholia, Ganesh Adhikari and several other dignitaries were present.
Cricket Kits Distributed to Players from 17 Villages
In another programme, cricket kits were distributed to youth clubs and cricket-playing youths from 17 nearby villages at the premises of Deepadhar Temple under the Kandarkuan Mandal of the Someshwar Assembly constituency. Addressing the youths, Minister Rekha Arya said that when young people actively participate in sports, it not only helps in nurturing new sporting talent but also contributes significantly to their physical and mental development.
She added that under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the state government is taking development schemes to every village, and numerous development works have been carried out in the Someshwar region as well. Expansion of sports facilities is providing a better platform for rural youths to showcase and enhance their talent.
The programme was attended by Bhuvan Joshi, Harish Parihar, Gopal Sati, Bhuvan Fartyal, Diwan Negi, Janki, Gopal Ram, Trilok Singh Rawat, Bhupal Parihar, Dhan Singh Rawat, Tara Singh Parihar, Bishan Singh Kanwal and many other local residents and youths.
