Alertness of local residents prevents major mishap; non-venomous rat snake safely released into the wild

Almora, Correspondent – Panic struck the Ranidhara area of Almora on Monday night when a snake unexpectedly entered a residential home. Around 9 PM, a rat snake (Dhamin species) was spotted inside the house of Harish Chandra Pant. Alarmed by the sighting, the homeowner immediately informed local councillor Amit Sah.

Upon receiving the alert, Councillor Amit Sah promptly contacted Forest Ranger Mohan Ram and rushed to the site. Joining him were Councillors Arjun Singh Bisht and Abhishek Joshi, along with Quick Response Team (QRT) members Neeraj Negi and Manoj Joshi.

Through the coordinated efforts of the councillors and the forest department team, the snake was safely rescued. Experts later identified it as a Dhamin, or Indian rat snake, a non-venomous species often mistaken for more dangerous types. The team carefully captured the snake and released it into a nearby forest, ensuring the safety of both the animal and the residents.

Several local residents, including Divyanshu Bisht, Pawan Pant, and Hem Siradi, also gathered at the scene. They assisted in keeping the area calm and supported the rescue operation.

Following the incident, Councillor Amit Sah emphasized that snake sightings tend to increase during the monsoon season. He urged residents not to panic and to remain vigilant. “In any emergency, people should immediately contact local councillors or disaster response teams,” he said.

Local citizens praised the swift and effective response by the councillors and the forest department, expressing gratitude for their timely intervention. They also called for continued readiness to handle such incidents in the future.
