Demand for memorial or public property to be named after Uttarakhand’s first female freedom fighter Bishni Devi Sah
Almora: The Sah-Chaudhary community of Almora submitted a memorandum to the city’s first elected Mayor, Mr. Ajay Verma, requesting that a newly developed public property, preferably one of the upcoming parking facilities, be named in honor of Uttarakhand’s first female freedom fighter, the late Bishni Devi Sah.
Extending their congratulations on his historic election, the members of the community expressed confidence in Mayor Verma’s integrity, dedication, and vision, stating that under his leadership, Almora is poised for positive transformation.
The memorandum highlighted Bishni Devi Sah’s invaluable contribution to the Indian freedom struggle, emphasizing the need for due recognition of her legacy in the form of a public memorial or naming.
Call for Traffic Regulation and Anti-Encroachment Measures
The community also raised concerns over the growing disorder caused by two-wheeler traffic in the city’s main market area. They urged the mayor to implement strict controls on such vehicular movement. As a solution, they suggested issuing monthly or annual passes to local residents living within the market zone. This measure, they noted, would not only offer convenience to residents but also generate additional revenue for the municipal corporation.
Additionally, the memorandum called for decisive action to make the main market area encroachment-free. The community believes that such initiatives would significantly improve urban management and enhance the shopping experience for both locals and visitors.
Community Leaders Present During the Submission
The memorandum was submitted in the presence of several notable community members, including Sah-Chaudhary Society President Mr. Deep Lal Shah, Vineeta Sah, Sajjan Chaudhary, Anoop Lal Sah, Engineer Niranjan Sah, Prabhat Lal Sah, Sudarshan Lal Sah, Sundar Lal Chaudhary, Engineer Siddharth Sah, Sumit Sah, Brijesh Lal Sah, and many others.
