Almora:
A recent viral video of a foreign woman in Almora market has sparked political reactions across the region. In the video, the woman is seen expressing her difficulties due to the lack of women’s toilet facilities in the town.
Reacting sharply to the incident, BJP leader Bittu Karnatak criticized the opposition, alleging that certain individuals deliberately recorded and circulated the video on social media to tarnish the image of Almora and the Municipal Corporation for political gains.
Karnatak stated that the opposition seems to have forgotten that for nearly 25 years, the Almora Municipal Council was led by Congress presidents. He questioned why basic facilities like women’s toilets were not adequately developed during such a long tenure.
He further said that those who are now questioning the one-year tenure of the Municipal Corporation should first present an account of their own 25 years in power. Karnatak also remarked that if those who made the video were genuinely concerned about the town, they could have assisted the foreign woman instead of politicizing the issue.
He clarified that expecting immediate transformation from the current Municipal Corporation within a year is unrealistic, especially when previous administrations failed to provide essential infrastructure over decades.
Karnatak accused the opposition of attempting to shift the blame for their own failures onto the current Mayor and the Municipal Corporation, adding that the public is well aware of the reality.
