“Hamare Buzurg Hamari Dharohar” Program Honors 25 Senior Citizens in Almora

Organized by “Hum Saathi Group,” event emphasizes family unity and intergenerational respect

In a heartwarming and inspirational gesture, “Hum Saathi Group, Almora” organized the “Hamare Buzurg Hamari Dharohar” (Our Elders, Our Heritage) program at a local hotel on Sunday at 3 PM. The event was dedicated to honoring 25 esteemed senior citizens aged 85 and above.

The program commenced with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, in which all 25 honored elders participated. Chief organizer Kamal Kumar Bisht shared that this was the first initiative of its kind and announced plans to expand such programs to villages in the future. He emphasized that elders who could not attend this time would be included in upcoming events.

Manoj Sanwal, General Secretary of Hum Saathi Group, stated that a dedicated team of volunteers will soon be formed to regularly check on the health, needs, and well-being of senior citizens aged 85 and above. This team will provide home visits, medical support, and necessary assistance as part of the ongoing mission.

Dignitaries present included Dr. J.C. Durgapal (President), C.L. Verma (Chief Patron), Dr. Bhupendra Valdiya, Dr. Vasudha Pant, Raghav Pant, Manohar Singh Negi, Meeta Upadhyay, Girish Sharma, among others. They lauded the group’s initiative and stressed the importance of strengthening social and familial bonds.

Students from Manas Public School and Kurmanchal Academy — Anshika Bisht, Kanak Negi, Ridhyanshi Bisht, Avani Bisht, and Khushi Negi — presented welcome songs in honor of the elders. Principal Manju Bisht led the welcoming rituals with floral offerings, tilak, and aarti.

The biographies of the honored elders were read aloud, and each was presented with a shawl, traditional cloth, and certificate of honor. The event was conducted by Kamal Kumar Bisht, and a vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. J.C. Durgapal.

This memorable event not only celebrated the lives of senior citizens but also conveyed a powerful message of respect, family unity, and the need to preserve and learn from the wisdom of older generations.
