Women’s teams to participate with folk songs, dance, and traditional performances

The Ghushmeshwar Mahila Samiti, based in Dharanaula, Almora, will celebrate the Harela festival with great cultural fervor on July 16, continuing its annual tradition. The committee’s president, Lata Tiwari, informed that women’s teams have been invited to participate with Harela saplings, and a series of cultural programs will be held on the occasion.
The event aims to promote local traditions and encourage women’s participation in cultural activities. The celebration will feature traditional folk dances like Jhora, folk songs, and group dance performances. Participating teams will also be honored with awards and recognition for their contributions.
President Lata Tiwari added that folk cultural troupes have also been invited to showcase their performances, helping preserve and promote the rich cultural heritage of Uttarakhand. The event will also be graced by the presence of prominent local officials, administrative officers, and political leaders, making it a significant celebration for the community.
To ensure smooth planning, a preparatory meeting of the committee was held. The meeting was attended by Secretary Preeti Bisht, Treasurer Radha Tiwari, and members including Radha Bisht, Deepa Bisht, Kamla Pandey, Hema Tiwari, Sapna Sanga, Tara Tiwari, Prabha Bora, Madhavi Bisht, Rama Lohani, Leela Joshi, Poonam Arya, and Kamla Karki, among others. Together, they finalized the structure and schedule of the event.
The committee emphasized that the objective of this celebration goes beyond festivities. It is also aimed at promoting environmental awareness, women empowerment, and reviving cultural consciousness. Harela, a festival deeply rooted in Uttarakhand’s tradition, symbolizes nature, greenery, and ecological balance, and this spirit will be central to the celebration.
The Mahila Samiti has extended a warm invitation to all residents of Almora to attend the event in large numbers and celebrate the essence of heritage, harmony, and sustainability through this grand traditional festival.
