Advocates submit memorandum to State Food & Civil Supplies Minister; CM previously approached
Almora – The District Bar Association Almora has reiterated its demand for the urgent appointment of a permanent president to the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Almora. A memorandum was submitted to Uttarakhand’s Food and Civil Supplies Minister, Smt. Rekha Arya, by Advocate Kavindra Pant (Vice President of the Bar Association), along with Advocates Azad Khan and Chandni Khan.
The advocates emphasized that despite several previous memoranda sent to the Chief Minister on the same issue, no concrete action has been taken so far. They stated that the absence of a permanent president in the commission has been causing significant delays in the resolution of consumer complaints, thereby depriving citizens of timely justice.
According to the memorandum, the appointment of a permanent president at the Almora headquarters would not only benefit local residents but also directly help consumers from neighboring hill districts like Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, and Champawat. Currently, consumers from these remote areas are compelled to travel long distances to seek redressal, leading to unnecessary expenditure of time, effort, and resources.
Additionally, the Bar Association has called for the establishment of a Commercial Court and either a permanent or at least a camp bench of the Kumaon Commissioner’s Court at Almora. They argue that such measures would significantly enhance judicial access and expedite case proceedings for litigants in the region.
The Association appealed to the government to act swiftly in the larger public interest and address these long-standing judicial infrastructure gaps. They warned that if the demands are not met soon, the legal fraternity may be compelled to adopt an agitation-based approach in coordination with public representatives.
Other advocates present at the occasion also echoed the need for improved judicial facilities in the region and urged the government to take prompt and constructive steps to strengthen Almora’s legal and administrative capabilities.
