Almora. In a commendable initiative aimed at promoting health and fitness among the youth, Almora Municipal Corporation Mayor Ajay Verma has begun implementing a plan to establish open gyms at seven key locations across the city. The construction of these gyms is progressing rapidly and is expected to be completed soon, after which they will be accessible to the public free of cost.
Mayor Verma stated that Almora has long lacked adequate recreational and exercise facilities for its young population, leading to concerns about their physical development. To address this, seven parks within the municipal limits—namely NTD Children Park, Mohan Chandra Upreti Park, Deendayal Upadhyay Park, Shaheed Park Pandeykhola, Swachhta Samiti Park, Karnataka Khola, and Officers Club Park—have been selected for the installation of open-air gym equipment. Once completed, these gyms will offer free access to all residents for physical workouts.
On Saturday, Mayor Ajay Verma conducted an inspection of the under-construction open gym at Karnataka Khola Park. He directed officials to ensure the highest standards of quality in the construction process. He emphasized that these gyms would not only promote a health-conscious lifestyle among the youth but also play a crucial role in steering them away from harmful habits such as substance abuse.
Former State Minister and BJP leader Bittu Karnataka, who was also present during the inspection, praised the mayor’s initiative. He stated that this step would serve as a milestone in strengthening the youth of Almora both physically and mentally. According to him, these gyms will not only enhance the city’s physical infrastructure but also add aesthetic value to the parks, contributing to the overall beautification of Almora.
BJP councilor Amit Sah ‘Monu’ also expressed his support for the initiative, calling it a living example of the development-oriented strategy adopted by the BJP-led municipal corporation. He noted that under the visionary leadership of Mayor Verma, Almora is on its way to becoming a model town, with enhanced civic amenities and youth-focused infrastructure.
The site inspection was attended by several notable figures, including former Minister Bittu Karnataka, BJP District Vice President Kailash Gururani, Councilors Amit Sah, Abhishek Joshi, Sunil Karnataka, Hem Joshi, Ashok Singh, Kapil Malhotra, Govind Matela, Deepak Pokhariya, Abhishek Tiwari, Nikhil Tiwari, Sudhir Kumar, and Dinesh Kumar.
This initiative by the Almora Municipal Corporation is being seen as a significant step toward building a healthier, more active community and is receiving widespread appreciation from both residents and public representatives alike.
