Under-17 and Under-19 athletes participate with enthusiasm; Rohit Arya and Harshita Bisht top the long jump events
Almora. The Nyaya Panchayat-level Khel Mahakumbh 2026-27 of Patlibagad Nyaya Panchayat began with enthusiasm at the sports ground of Government Inter College Chaura, Havalbagh, on Friday.
The event opened with a Saraswati Vandana, following which players from the Under-17 and Under-19 categories participated in various sporting events and showcased their talent.
Chief guests Devendra Singh Mehra, Gram Pradhan of Uskona, and Vinod Joshi, Gram Pradhan of Atharbani, inaugurated the competitions by cutting the ribbon. The guests were welcomed with badges and mementoes.
Speaking on the occasion, Devendra Singh Mehra said the Khel Mahakumbh is providing a valuable platform for identifying and promoting sporting talent from rural areas. He encouraged the players to participate in the spirit of sportsmanship and improve their skills through regular practice.
Vinod Joshi said students should take an active interest in sports alongside their studies. He noted that sports are no longer limited to recreation and offer several opportunities for building a career.
Gram Pradhan of Syura, Pramod Joshi, said regular participation in sports contributes to a healthy body and mind while helping children develop discipline, confidence and a competitive spirit.
Principal and Nodal Officer Navneet Kumar Pandey said sports play an important role in the physical and mental development of students. Such competitions help build confidence and prepare young athletes for higher-level competitions.
On the first day, Rohit Arya secured first place in the Under-19 boys’ long jump, followed by Krishna Gangola in second and Harshit Bisht in third. In the girls’ category, Harshita Bisht stood first, Mamta Bisht second and Himani Bisht third.
Several gram pradhans, School Management Committee and Parent-Teacher Association representatives, teachers, staff members, parents and local representatives attended the event. The programme was conducted by Dr. Manoj Chandra Joshi.
