Almora: A historic milestone has been achieved in the Department of Mathematics at Soban Singh Jeena University, Almora, with the award of its first-ever Ph.D. degree to research scholar Dr. Pushpa Bora. The achievement is being regarded as a matter of great pride for both the department and the university.
Dr. Pushpa Bora completed her doctoral research under the supervision of Prof. Jaya Upreti, a distinguished academician who has previously served as Dean of the Faculty of Science, Head of the Department of Mathematics, and Dean of Students’ Welfare (DSW). The research conducted under her guidance is considered a significant contribution to the fields of Mathematics and Differential Geometry.
The award of the first Ph.D. degree marks an important chapter in the academic and research history of the university. Faculty members described the achievement as a landmark event that will inspire future scholars and strengthen the research culture within the institution.
During her doctoral studies, Dr. Bora actively contributed to academic and research activities while working as a Woman Scientist under the WISE-KIRAN programme of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. Her participation in the programme enabled her to engage in advanced research and academic development initiatives.
The Ph.D. viva voce examination was conducted in the presence of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Satpal Singh Bisht, Registrar Dr. D.S. Bisht, Director of SSJ Campus Prof. P.S. Bisht, faculty members, research scholars, and students from various departments.
Prof. Rajendra Prasad served as the external examiner for the viva voce. Appreciating the quality of the research, he described it as a valuable contribution to the field of mathematics and congratulated Dr. Bora on her achievement.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Satpal Singh Bisht stated that the accomplishment reflects the university’s commitment to academic excellence and high-quality research. He expressed confidence that this milestone would encourage more students to pursue advanced research in mathematics and related disciplines.
