Almora: As preparations gather pace for Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi’s upcoming public rally in Almora, Uttarakhand Congress in-charge Kumari Selja on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the ruling BJP government, claiming that public dissatisfaction has reached such a level that even BJP workers privately admit that a Congress government is likely to come to power in the next Assembly elections.
Addressing a press conference in Almora, Selja said all arrangements for Rahul Gandhi’s rally have been completed and the event would mark the beginning of the party’s campaign for the upcoming Uttarakhand Assembly elections.
Calling upon party workers and supporters to make the rally a grand success, she described the gathering as a decisive political moment for the state.
Taking direct aim at the BJP, Selja alleged that Uttarakhand has suffered from “ten years of misgovernance, rising unemployment, inflation and administrative failures.” According to her, growing public frustration is no longer limited to opposition supporters.
“During my visits across the state, even BJP workers told me that people are looking towards Congress and that change is inevitable,” she claimed.
Selja further alleged that the BJP government’s tourism policy has failed to deliver results. She pointed to recurring traffic congestion during major pilgrimage and tourist seasons, arguing that the government has been unable to create infrastructure capable of handling increasing tourist inflows.
“The government spends more time on publicity than on solving people’s problems,” she said, adding that unemployment, migration and economic distress continue to haunt large sections of Uttarakhand’s population.
On the upcoming elections, Selja asserted that Congress leaders and workers are united and prepared to fight the BJP aggressively. She said Rahul Gandhi’s Almora rally would send a strong political message across Uttarakhand and energize party cadres at the grassroots level.
Leader of Opposition Yashpal Arya, former Chief Minister Harish Rawat, Uttarakhand Congress president Ganesh Godiyal, former state president Karan Mahara, MLA Manoj Tiwari, former MP Pradeep Tamta and several senior Congress leaders were present during the press conference.
Political observers believe the rally is being viewed by Congress as an opportunity to test its organizational strength in Kumaon and set the tone for the next Assembly election battle in Uttarakhand.
