Ward Councillor Amit Sah leads weekly cleaning and conservation drive

Almora (Correspondent). The once-abundant traditional water sources known as Naulas in Almora city are now on the verge of extinction. Once numbering in the hundreds, these ancient freshwater springs have gradually disappeared due to neglect and lack of awareness. In light of this, about a month and a half ago, Municipal Councillor Amit Sah ‘Monu’ and his team took it upon themselves to protect and preserve the remaining Naulas.

Councillor Amit Sah informed that under this campaign, one Naula is cleaned every week, and steps are being taken to ensure their long-term conservation. He emphasized that Naulas are not only vital sources of clean drinking water but also symbols of the region’s cultural heritage. “It is our moral responsibility to preserve these historical resources for future generations,” he said.

Councillor Meera Mishra added that preserving natural water sources is essential in today’s time. She appealed to all citizens to actively participate in maintaining and protecting Naulas in their localities. The campaign has started gaining public support, with local residents and representatives joining hands for this noble cause.

Amit Sah also stated that he has requested the municipal corporation and district administration to allocate a dedicated budget for the maintenance and restoration of these Naulas. He stressed the need for proper repair and renovation to restore them to functional condition. He believes this initiative could become a milestone in the direction of water conservation and cultural preservation in Almora.

On Sunday, a Naula cleaning drive was conducted in the Dhooni Mandir ward under the municipal area. The campaign saw participation from Councillor Amit Sah Monu, Councillor Meera Mishra, BJP District Vice President Kailash Gururani, Councillor Abhishek Joshi, former councillor Jagmohan Bisht, members of the Hisalu organization Krishna Singh, Ashish Gururani, Neeraj Mishra, Hriday Gururani, Ayush Gururani, and several local citizens.

This collective effort by public representatives and social workers is setting an example for environmental stewardship and sustainable water resource management in Almora city.
