Almora. On the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi releasing the 21st installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, a special and grand program was organized on Monday at the ICAR–Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan, Almora. The Mayor of Almora Municipal Corporation, Ajay Verma, attended the event as the chief guest.
The program commenced with the Council Song. This was followed by a Farmers’ Workshop in which the institute’s scientists provided detailed information on improved production technologies for Rabi crops and vegetables, soil health management, organic farming, water conservation techniques, and agricultural mechanization. Later, the farmers present at the institute watched the live telecast of the historic event from Codissia Trade Fair Complex, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi transferred nearly ₹18,000 crore to the bank accounts of over 9.75 crore farmers across the country.
Welcoming all guests and farmers, the institute’s Director, Dr. Lakshmi Kant, highlighted the significance of the PM-KISAN scheme. He emphasized that the scheme is providing strong financial support to farmers. He also shared information about the innovations, technological assistance, and training programs being run by the institute, reiterating its commitment to doubling farmers’ income.
Chief guest Ajay Verma congratulated the institute, stating that it has been continuously working for the progress of farmers and has played an important role in disseminating new agricultural research from time to time. Saluting the nation’s food providers on this historic occasion, he said the scheme has emerged as a major financial support system for millions of farmers. He added that the PM-KISAN amount helps farmers in purchasing seeds, fertilizers, irrigation facilities, and other agricultural inputs, reducing their dependence on others. He further mentioned that the idea—“If the farmer prospers, the nation prospers”—is clearly reflected in the Prime Minister’s vision.
He also said the PM-KISAN scheme is proving to be a milestone in ensuring that financial benefits reach even the last farmer in the country. Appreciating the institute’s research and technological outreach in remote hilly regions, he stated that these efforts have significantly contributed to sustainable agricultural development.
A total of 330 farmers (137 women and 193 men) participated enthusiastically in the program. The farmers listened attentively to the Prime Minister’s address and expressed hope regarding upcoming installments of the scheme.
The program was conducted by Senior Scientist Dr. Kamini Bisht, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Senior Scientist Dr. Kushagra Joshi.
