Paras Upadhyay Honored with Young Scientist Award 2025

Institute expresses joy; Research bridges traditional knowledge with modern science

Almora/Dehradun – Paras Upadhyay, Senior Fellow at G.B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment, has been awarded the prestigious Young Scientist Award 2025. He received this honor for his outstanding presentation in the field of rural science and society, particularly integrating traditional knowledge systems with modern scientific approaches.

The award was presented by eminent personalities during the Uttarakhand State Science & Technology Congress, organized by UCOST at Graphic Era University, Dehradun, held from 28–30 November.

Paras has conducted community-based research in Jyoli Cluster, Hawalbagh (Almora), covering 5–6 villages. His work focuses on developing rural enterprises using scientific methods and promoting agricultural and non-agricultural livelihood models that contribute to income enhancement of farmers. His efforts aim to strengthen inclusive and sustainable development by blending modern research with indigenous practices.

A native of Chinianaula, Ranikhet, Paras completed his early education at Kendriya Vidyalaya Ranikhet and graduated from Nainital Campus. He has contributed to five major research projects under the Government of India.

Earlier this year, Paras also brought pride to the institute and the region by securing an award for his presentation in an international conference organized by the Uttarakhand Council for Biotechnology, Pantnagar.

The institute celebrated his remarkable achievement with great enthusiasm. Dr. I.D. Bhatt, Director of the Institute, Dr. Paromita Ghosh, Senior Scientist & Center Head, Dr. Harshit Pant, Dr. Satish Arya, along with Dr. Ashish Tiwari, Head of Forestry Department, Nainital Campus, and Ankit Mehra congratulated the young scientist. Members of the local community also extended their best wishes.

His success is being seen as an inspiration for young researchers across the region.
