Chief Speaker Dr. Dev Singh Pokhariya Highlights Hindi as a Strong Link in Scientific Research and National Development
Almora. A one-day Hindi workshop on the theme “The Contribution of Hindi in a Developed India” was organized on 11 December 2025 at the ICAR–Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan, Almora. The event, held in the institute’s auditorium, witnessed enthusiastic participation from scientists, officers and staff members.
The programme began with the national song Vande Mataram followed by the Council’s anthem, which created a dignified and inspiring atmosphere. Senior Scientist Dr. Ramesh Singh Pal formally welcomed the chief guest and keynote speaker, Dr. Dev Singh Pokhariya, former Head of the Hindi Department, Almora Campus, Kumaun University, Nainital; Institute Director Dr. Lakshmi Kant; along with all heads of departments, scientists and participants.
Delivering his keynote address, Dr. Pokhariya presented an insightful and thought-provoking lecture on the relevance of Hindi in the vision of a Developed India. He emphasized that Hindi plays a vital role in realizing the national aspiration of Viksit Bharat. As a language that connects millions, Hindi is also a powerful medium for conveying scientific research, administrative communication, technological information and innovations to the common people.
He noted that farmers are the backbone of Indian agriculture, and bringing research findings to them in Hindi makes the knowledge truly accessible. According to him, farmers, scientists, youth and women collectively form the four pillars crucial for achieving the Viksit Bharat 2047 goals envisioned by the Hon’ble Prime Minister.
Dr. Pokhariya stated that broad public participation in India’s progress is impossible until Hindi and other Indian languages are widely adopted in official and scientific systems. He stressed that Hindi is the most effective medium for disseminating scientific research and agricultural extension services to farmers, as language enables true knowledge transfer. He also highlighted that Hindi’s contribution is not limited to linguistics but also extends to cultural, social and intellectual unity—making it an essential component in the making of a developed India.
Institute Director Dr. Lakshmi Kant, addressing the gathering, said that the primary aim of such workshops is to promote the use of Rajbhasha Hindi, strengthen scientific communication and enhance administrative efficiency. He noted that Hindi is a flexible and inclusive language capable of assimilating vocabulary from various languages, thereby enriching communication and making it more dynamic.
Dr. Kant emphasized the need for further work in developing scientific and technical terminology in Hindi. He pointed out the importance of creating simpler translations to promote the use of Hindi in scientific writing, administrative tasks and daily communication. Encouraging participants, he said that increasing the use of Hindi in research documentation, official work and routine interactions would significantly contribute to the nation’s progress.
The programme was attended by department heads, scientists, officers, technical staff and administrative personnel in large numbers. It was efficiently conducted by Chief Technical Officer and In-charge of Official Language, Smt. Renu Sanwal.
The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Priyanka Khati, member of the Official Language Committee and Scientist, who expressed gratitude to all participants for their cooperation and contribution.
