Competitions Inspire Environmental Responsibility Among Students

A vibrant awareness program was organized at the auditorium of Ramsay Inter College on the eve of World Environment Day (June 5), under the joint aegis of the District Ganga Protection Committee and Green Hills Trust, Almora. The event focused on instilling the spirit of environmental conservation through creativity-based competitions.
In the sub-junior category (Classes 5 to 8), a painting competition was conducted on the theme “Pollution-Free Earth”, drawing participation from 90 students representing 24 schools across Almora district. For the senior category (Classes 9 to 12), a spot story writing competition in Hindi was held, with 24 participants from 8 schools.
In the painting competition, Pratibha from Sharda Public School secured first place, Bhola Sharma from Green Field Public School came second, and Siddi Tamta from GGIC won third place. In the story writing competition, Jagrati Joshi from Beersheba School bagged the first prize, followed by Saumya Dalakoti in second place and Htakshi Nayak in third.
The chief guest of the event was Ms. Ganga Bisht, Vice Chairperson of the Uttarakhand Women Entrepreneurship Development Council. Among the distinguished guests were Almora Mayor Ajay Verma, Dr. Rawat, Girish Malhotra, Principal of Ramsay Inter College Saj Singh, Project Officer of the District Ganga Protection Committee Ranjita Verma, and Deepak Joshi.
Congratulating the winners, Ganga Bisht emphasized that environmental conservation is the need of the hour. Mayor Ajay Verma appreciated the efforts of Green Hills Trust, stating that such activities play a vital role in nurturing socially aware and responsible citizens.
The panel of judges included Dr. J.C. Durgapal, Dr. Mamta Pant, Dr. Yamini Kandpal, Dr. Deepa Gupta, Dr. Neeraj Pant, Dr. Dhara Ballabh Pandey, Kamlesh, and Ruchir Pant. The event was efficiently anchored by Dr. Vasudha Pant, Secretary of Green Hills Trust.
