Almora, A Hindi workshop on the theme “Implementation of Hindi as the Official Language in Administrative Work” was organized today at ICAR-Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan (VPKAS), Almora. The workshop was chaired by Dr. Lakshmi Kant, Director, ICAR-VPKAS. Shri Dheeraj Sharma, Joint Director (Official Language), ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal, joined the programme online as the keynote speaker.
In his presidential address, Dr. Lakshmi Kant said that the primary objective of the workshop was to promote the practical and effective use of Hindi in day-to-day administrative work. He stated that the institute has been making continuous efforts towards the use and promotion of the Official Language. He also informed that the institute had performed satisfactorily on all prescribed parameters during the inspection by the Parliamentary Committee on Official Language conducted around two years ago.
Dr. Kant further stated that all departments and sections of the institute are complying with the Official Language rules. He added that continuous efforts are also being made to encourage all 32 offices under the Town Official Language Implementation Committee (TOLIC), Almora, to adhere to the provisions related to the Official Language.
Delivering his keynote address, Shri Dheeraj Sharma presented the evolution of Hindi and its journey towards becoming the Official Language in an engaging manner. Describing Hindi as a powerful medium of expression, he highlighted its role in facilitating communication and strengthening bonds among people.
Shri Sharma elaborated on the constitutional status of the Official Language, relevant provisions of the Constitution and the international form of numerals. He also highlighted 12 important words frequently associated with the promotion of Hindi: Prerna (inspiration), Protsahan (encouragement), Puraskar (award), Prem (affection), Prashikshan (training), Prachar (promotion), Prasar (dissemination), Prabandhan (management), Prayas (effort), Promotion, Prayog (use), and Pratibaddhata (commitment).
He also provided participants with technical information related to the annual targets of the Department of Official Language, quarterly progress reports, meetings of Hindi committees, workshops and the questionnaire used during Parliamentary Official Language inspections.
The workshop was conducted by Smt. Renu Sanwal, Officer-in-Charge (Official Language). A large number of scientists, officers and administrative personnel of the institute participated in the programme. The workshop provided useful insights into the effective, simple and increased use of Hindi in administrative work and was a meaningful step towards strengthening the implementation of the Official Language at the institute.
