Recognition conferred at the 6th All India Official Language Conference in Mumbai
Almora. The Almora Nagar Rajbhasha Karyanvayan Samiti (NARAKAS) was honoured with a national award in the ‘Commendable Category’ during the 6th All India Official Language Conference held in Mumbai on September 15, 2026. The recognition is being viewed as a matter of great pride for Almora and the entire region.
The prestigious award was presented by Smt. Anshuli Arya, IAS, Secretary, Department of Official Language, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, along with other distinguished dignitaries. The award was received by Dr. Lakshmi Kant, Chairman of Almora NARAKAS and Director of ICAR-Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan, and Smt. Renu Sanwal, Member Secretary, Chief Technical Officer and Officer-in-Charge, Official Language.
Almora NARAKAS comprises 32 Central Government offices, undertakings, banks, Sashastra Seema Bal and other Central institutions functioning in Almora district. Despite the geographical challenges of the remote Himalayan region, the committee has achieved national recognition for its efforts towards effective implementation of Hindi in official work.
In accordance with the provisions of the Official Languages Act, the committee has been working to promote the simple, effective and regular use of Hindi in the day-to-day functioning of its member institutions. The sustained efforts and active participation of departmental heads and Official Language officers have played an important role in achieving this recognition.
The national award is being regarded as a collective achievement of all the institutions associated with Almora NARAKAS. Officials and employees of the participating Central Government offices, banks and institutions have expressed their appreciation for the recognition.
The committee acknowledged the dedication and continuous efforts of all departmental heads and Official Language officers associated with NARAKAS. Their collective commitment towards promoting Hindi in official communication has contributed significantly to the achievement.
The recognition has also added greater responsibility for Almora NARAKAS to further strengthen the implementation of Hindi in official work. The committee is expected to continue its efforts towards encouraging the simple, accessible and effective use of Hindi across its member institutions.
The national recognition at a prestigious platform in Mumbai has brought distinction to Almora and highlighted the collective commitment of the district’s Central Government institutions towards the promotion and effective implementation of the Official Language.
