Almora. The Devbhoomi Udyog Vyapar Mandal Almora has decided to keep all commercial establishments in Almora city completely closed on Friday, August 28, 2026, on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.
The decision was taken unanimously at a meeting led by Nagar President Sanjay Sah ‘Rikkhu’, with the interests of traders and the traditional significance of Raksha Bandhan being given priority.
The trade body said the decision would allow traders to celebrate the festival with their sisters and families without the pressure of running their businesses. A number of traders in Almora have sisters living outside the city or in distant areas, making it difficult for them to travel and participate in the festival while keeping their shops open.
According to the trade body, the annual market closure on Raksha Bandhan provides traders an opportunity to devote time to their families and strengthen the bonds associated with the festival.
The organisation appealed to all traders in Almora to cooperate with the decision and keep their establishments closed on August 28 so that they can celebrate Raksha Bandhan with their families and sisters with happiness and enthusiasm.
The meeting was attended by District President Manoj Singh Pawar, Nagar General Secretary Deep Chandra Joshi, Nagar Vice Presidents Deepak Joshi and Anand Singh Bhoj, Women’s Nagar Vice President Manu Gupta, Deputy Secretary Aman Takwal, Treasurer Rohit Sah, Women’s District Vice President and Councillor Vandana Verma, District Working President Pramod Pawar ‘Bhima’, District General Secretary Kandpal, District Vice President Himanshu Bisht, District Organisation General Secretary Neeraj Thapa ‘Bittu’, District Treasurer Ganesh Joshi ‘Guddu’, and District Minister Dinesh Kandpal.
The Devbhoomi Udyog Vyapar Mandal has once again appealed to all traders to keep their establishments closed on August 28 and celebrate the auspicious festival of Raksha Bandhan with their families and sisters.
