During the visit of Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to Almora, Congress workers staged a strong protest against the alleged neglect of Almora Municipal Corporation, discrimination in development works, and ignorance of public issues. The protesters waved black flags and raised slogans against the state government, expressing deep anger over the condition of the town.
Congress Councillor Vaibhav Pandey accused the government of deliberately ignoring Almora in terms of development. He stated that while the government continues to make tall claims, the ground reality in Almora reflects poor roads, water shortages, weak sanitation systems, and lack of civic facilities. According to him, the administration has failed to address the genuine concerns of the people.
Before the protesters could reach the main venue of the Chief Minister’s program, police detained several Congress workers and stopped them midway. Congress leaders termed the action as an attack on democratic rights and alleged that the government was trying to suppress the voice of opposition.
The protest witnessed heavy sloganeering against the government, with workers accusing the administration of political bias and continuous neglect of Almora city. Vaibhav Pandey said that the Municipal Corporation’s demands have been repeatedly ignored and the people of Almora are being forced to suffer due to administrative indifference.
He further warned that if the concerns of Almora’s residents and the demands of the Municipal Corporation are not addressed seriously, the Congress party will intensify its democratic movement in the coming days. He asserted that the struggle for the rights of Almora’s people would continue until justice and proper development are ensured.
