Almora.
Janki Janoti, a resident of Khatyari Gram Panchayat under Hawalbag Development Block in Almora district, has set an inspiring example of self-reliance by associating with the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM). Once confined to household responsibilities with limited resources, Janki has today established herself as a successful woman entrepreneur.
According to available information, Janki Janoti joined the “Jigyasa Self-Help Group,” formed under the National Rural Livelihoods Mission, in the year 2021. Prior to joining the group, she was engaged only in domestic work, due to which her financial condition was not stable and her family faced several economic challenges. After gaining awareness about government welfare schemes, she took a significant step towards livelihood enhancement by becoming part of the self-help group.
Subsequently, her group was organized into the Riddhika Gram Organization and the Vikas Swayat Sahkarita Khatyari (Cluster). Owing to her active participation, leadership qualities, and dedication, Janki Janoti was selected as a key woman member, giving her an important role in strengthening and guiding the group.
Project Director, NRLM, K.N. Tiwari informed that under NRLM, the group was provided financial assistance of ₹65,000 through Revolving Fund (RF) and CIF. In addition, a credit limit of ₹1,50,000 was sanctioned under the Community Credit Linkage (CCL). Moreover, through RSETI Hawalbag, Janki received training in teddy bear manufacturing, while NRLM also facilitated training in jute bag production.
After completing the training, jute product manufacturing was initiated in 2023 under the Vikas Swayat Sahkarita Khatyari using CIF and CCL funds. As part of this initiative, the “Himanya Outlet” was established, where various jute-based products are manufactured and marketed.
At present, Janki Janoti is actively working at the outlet, earning a minimum annual income of ₹1,14,000. In recognition of her outstanding work and contribution, she was felicitated by senior officials at the Vikas Swayat Sahkarita Khatyari on June 5, 2025.
Today, as a self-reliant woman entrepreneur, Janki Janoti is not only strengthening the economic condition of her family but has also emerged as a source of inspiration for other rural women. Her success story clearly highlights the effectiveness of the National Rural Livelihoods Mission and stands as a strong example of women empowerment in rural areas.
