Almora. A long-pending culvert cleaning drive was carried out at Badi Bagicha under the initiative of Ward Councillor Anju Bisht. During the cleanliness campaign, the Municipal Corporation deployed a JCB machine to remove the accumulated debris from the culvert. As a result, two truckloads of construction debris and two truckloads of garbage were cleared from the site, providing much-needed relief to local residents.
Councillor Anju Bisht stated that due to the accumulation of garbage, stones and silt inside the culvert, water drainage was being obstructed, especially during the rainy season. This often led to waterlogging on nearby roads and in residential areas. Taking the complaints of local residents seriously, the cleaning work was promptly undertaken in coordination with the Municipal Corporation.
Municipal Corporation official Rajpal Pawar was present at the site and supervised the cleaning operation. Environmental volunteer Deepak Chandail actively participated in the cleanliness drive along with his team. Junior Engineer Mahendra Singh Bisht from the Jal Sansthan (Water Supply Department) was also present on the spot and provided necessary technical guidance related to water drainage.
Local residents including Tushar Kant Sah and Rakesh Bisht, along with other citizens, extended their cooperation during the drive and expressed gratitude to Councillor Anju Bisht and the Municipal Corporation. They said that the cleaning of the culvert would ensure smooth water flow and significantly improve sanitation in the area.
Councillor Anju Bisht appealed to the public not to dump garbage in culverts and drains and to cooperate with the administration in maintaining cleanliness. She added that such cleaning drives would continue in the future to ensure a clean, safe and well-managed city.
