Almora. The district administration has finally moved into action after complaints surfaced about the poor condition of the newly constructed parking near the Taxi Stand in Almora town. A delegation of BJP councillors and party workers had recently inspected the parking site and raised serious objections regarding the quality of construction. Taking cognizance of the matter, the District Magistrate summoned the project manager of the executing agency CNDS and directed immediate rectification of all faults.
During the inspection, the councillors alleged that despite spending lakhs of rupees, the parking facility was not built as per standards. They pointed out several flaws, including peeling cement layers, exposed iron rods on the floor and plaster falling off from various sections. They said that these conditions clearly indicate the use of substandard materials and gross negligence in the construction work.
The councillors also highlighted the lack of a proper roof shed, due to which vehicles were left exposed to sun and rain. Absence of fire safety equipment and completely clogged drainage lines were also flagged as serious shortcomings. They added that due to the choked drains, rainwater accumulates inside the parking area during monsoons, causing mud, inconvenience to drivers and difficulties for the general public.
They warned that if the executing agency failed to take prompt corrective steps, they would be compelled to meet the District Magistrate and demand an official investigation against the agency and the contractor.
After the issue came into focus, the District Magistrate of Almora took prompt action and instructed the CNDS project manager to begin repair work without delay. Following the directives, the renovation of the parking area and the installation of tiles commenced today.
Councillor Amit Sah ‘Monu’ expressed gratitude to the District Magistrate for the swift response. He further stated that he would continuously monitor the repair work to ensure adherence to quality standards. He added that departmental negligence would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
At the time of commencement of the repair work, Councillor Amit Sah Monu, Councillor Arjun Bisht, Abhishek Joshi, former BJP District Vice-President Kailash Gururani, Manoj Pathak, Krishna Bahadur Singh, Gram Pradhan Vinod Joshi and others were present.
