Panic gripped the area near the Almora-Lakshmeshwar Bypass on Friday afternoon after a portion of a hillside suddenly collapsed onto the road, completely blocking traffic. Fortunately, no loss of life or property was reported in the incident.
Upon receiving information about the landslide, Municipal Councillor Amit Sah ‘Monu’ rushed to the site and immediately coordinated with the Disaster Management Department. A JCB machine was deployed on-site, and prompt action ensured that the debris was quickly cleared, and normal traffic flow was restored within a short time.
Councillor Amit Sah took the opportunity to demand a permanent solution, stating, “Considering the sensitivity of the monsoon season, a JCB machine should be kept on reserve for the municipal area so that immediate relief efforts can be initiated in case of such emergencies.”
Councillors Arjun Bisht ‘Cheema’, Abhijeet Tiwari, Hem Chandra Joshi, Dinesh Dani, and Atul Pandey were also present at the site and extended active support in the relief operation.
Local residents appreciated the swift response and dedication of the councillors. They also urged the administration to implement long-term safety measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
