In a significant step towards empowering persons with disabilities, a District Disability Service Center has been inaugurated in Almora under the Aarambh Committee. This center is part of a nationwide initiative by Saksham, an organization committed to supporting persons with disabilities across India.
The primary objective of this service center is to ensure easy access to all government-related online services for people with disabilities in the district. The center will provide free guidance and assistance related to services such as UDID (Unique Disability ID) cards, disability pension schemes, disability certificates, Local Level Guardianship, and assistive equipment.
Speaking at the inauguration, Kapil Malhotra, District Coordinator of Saksham, said, “This center is a vital step for the disabled community in Almora. Our aim is to ensure that no person with a disability is deprived of government facilities and that timely support and accurate guidance are made available. This center will play an important role in that direction.”
The center is expected to simplify the process of obtaining essential documents and services while also encouraging self-reliance among the disabled. The initiative received praise from local public representatives, social workers, and citizens, who called it a humane and much-needed development for the district.
