Almora. A symposium was organized at a local hotel in Almora to mark the birth anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, the founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh and a staunch nationalist leader. The event featured various speakers who shed light on Dr. Mookerjee’s life, ideology, and supreme sacrifice for the nation.
Presiding over the event, Municipal President Vineet Bisht stated that Dr. Mookerjee dedicated his entire life to upholding the principle of “One Nation, One Constitution.” He called upon the youth to follow Dr. Mookerjee’s ideals and actively participate in nation-building. He also mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while paying tribute to Dr. Mookerjee, described him as a valiant hero who sacrificed his life to uphold the dignity and integrity of the nation.
Ravi Rautela highlighted Dr. Mookerjee’s ultimate sacrifice for the honor of the country, calling him a “true son of the nation.” He emphasized that Dr. Mookerjee’s ideals remain relevant and guiding in the journey toward a self-reliant India.
District Vice President Kailash Gururani elaborated on various milestones in Dr. Mookerjee’s life, noting that he became the youngest Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University. He served as a minister in Nehru’s cabinet but resigned in the national interest to form the Bharatiya Jana Sangh.
Mayor Ajay Verma remarked that Dr. Mookerjee had unwavering faith in the energy and capabilities of the country. He believed that a nation could secure itself only through the strength of its people.
State Executive Member Govind Pilkhwal praised Dr. Mookerjee’s visionary leadership, especially in areas such as women empowerment, education, and India’s nuclear policy—stating that his thinking was far ahead of his time.
Speakers also stressed that Dr. Mookerjee’s dream of ending the system of “two constitutions, two flags, and two heads” in Jammu and Kashmir has been realized under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. His sacrifice for the unity and integrity of Mother India continues to inspire citizens across the country.
The session was jointly conducted by Municipal General Secretaries Arjun Bisht and Devendra Bhatt.
