District Magistrate personally visited the ashram to present the honour; inspired the girls with her life journey
Almora, Correspondent –
Renowned Gandhian social worker Radha Behn from Almora district was formally presented with the Padma Shri Award by the Government of India on Tuesday at Lakshmi Ashram, located in Kausani. Due to health concerns, she was unable to attend the main ceremony held in Delhi. Recognizing this, District Magistrate Alok Kumar Pandey personally visited the ashram to hand over the prestigious national honour.
During the award ceremony, the District Magistrate interacted with the girls at the ashram, encouraging them to draw inspiration from Radha Behn’s life of sacrifice, service, and self-reliance. “Personalities like Radha Behn are invaluable treasures of our society,” he remarked. “I hope that more Padma awardees emerge from this very ashram, contributing uniquely to social service,” he added.
While inspecting the surroundings, the DM also took note of illegal deforestation and land degradation occurring along the approach route to the ashram. Expressing serious concern over the issue, he instructed relevant departments to conduct an immediate investigation and take necessary action.
The event was also attended by Additional District Magistrate C.S. Martolia, Tehsildar Neha Dhapola, Janmejay Tiwari from the Department of Culture, Threeesh Kapoor, and several distinguished citizens and departmental officers.
