Initiative Aims to Combine Environmental Protection with Respect for Motherhood
Almora:
A tree plantation program was organized today at the premises of Gangnath Temple under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (One Tree in Mother’s Name) campaign, led by the Nagar Mandal Almora. Speaking on the occasion, Nagar President Vineet Bisht emphasized that the campaign is not only about planting trees but also aims to foster environmental sensitivity among children and youth while enhancing the region’s greenery. He added that a system has been put in place to ensure the maintenance and protection of the planted saplings, so future generations may benefit from shade and clean air.
Bisht further noted that the campaign is inspired by the vision of India’s Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi and is part of a national movement targeting the plantation of 100 million trees. He described it as a tribute to motherhood, aiming to instill respect for maternal values along with environmental stewardship.
Almora Municipal Mayor Ajay Verma addressed the gathering, stating that such campaigns nurture awareness about sustainable development among the younger generation. He highlighted that priority is being given to local and native plant species to promote biodiversity alongside environmental conservation.
Former District President and State Executive Member Ravi Rautela praised the campaign’s concept, calling it a meaningful initiative to express reverence for mothers while contributing to ecological preservation. “Just as a mother nurtures life, trees provide protection and nourishment for future generations,” he said.
Former State Minister and Executive Member Govind Pilkholwal stressed the importance of collective efforts, noting India’s significant progress in increasing forest cover over the last decade. He called the campaign a vital step towards achieving sustainable development goals.
Also speaking on the occasion, former State Minister Bittu Karnatak remarked that planting a tree in honor of one’s mother is both an act of environmental protection and a gesture of respect for motherhood. He described the campaign as a growing people’s movement involving citizens of all ages and walks of life.
Prominent attendees at the event included Nagar General Secretary Arjun Bisht, Devendra Bhatt, Councilor Amit Sah Monu, District Vice President Kailash Gururani, Nagar Vice President Dinesh Mathpal, Ashish Kumar, Harish Kanwal, Nagar Secretary Anand Bhoj, Office Secretary Kamal Verma, Madan Bisht, Jagmohan Bisht, Manoj Sanwal, Chandan Bahuguna, Manoj Bhandari, and Nisha Bisht among many other dignitaries, councilors, and volunteers.
