Almora – Under the direction of the Hon’ble Uttarakhand State Legal Services Authority, Nainital, and the guidance of Shri Shrikant Pandey, Chairman of District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Almora, a special awareness campaign was organized on May 21 and 22, 2025, focusing on child-friendly legal services and various government welfare schemes for children.
As part of this initiative, Secretary of DLSA Almora, Ms. Shachi Sharma, led the organization of legal awareness camps on May 22 at Vivekananda Inter College, Mangaldeep Khatyari, Leprosy Mission Karbala, and Baldhauti.
The camps began with the NALSA theme song “Ek Muthi Aasman”. Students, persons with disabilities, and members of the public were informed about the provisions under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, especially concerning the rights and protections available for vulnerable children such as orphans, abandoned children, disaster victims, and victims of abuse.
The sessions also covered the role of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), the functioning of the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), and schemes like the “Vatsalya Yojana” aimed at supporting children in need. Additionally, the functioning of special legal units such as LSUC (Legal Services Unit for Children) and LSUM (Legal Services Unit: Manoyay), created for children under 18, was explained. These units consist of panel advocates and support persons who offer free legal aid to children.
Interactive discussions were held with students and teachers to understand their concerns and provide appropriate solutions. Pamphlets and posters were distributed to enhance awareness among children. The program concluded with the NALSA theme song once again.
The camp witnessed active participation from teachers of various schools, institutional representatives, and legal support officers.
