Kasar Devi (Almora): As part of the 45-day Voice for Green Earth campaign, the youth associated with Uttarakhand Youth Network (UYN) organized an awareness rally and green walk in the Kasar Devi area on Sunday. During the event, the young participants collected plastic waste, bottles, and other non-biodegradable materials scattered across the forest and handed them over to the district council’s waste collection vehicle.
The program was inaugurated by Chief Development Officer and Acting Municipal Commissioner, Devesh Shasni, while the event was presided over by former village head and current village administrator, Manoj Mehra. The campaign, organized in collaboration with Aman Sanstha, received active support from the district council, which provided the garbage collection vehicle and personnel.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from local Anganwadi workers, assistants, ASHA workers, midday meal cooks, village administrators, and villagers. CDO Devesh Shasni lauded the efforts of the youth and described their initiative as inspiring. He expressed confidence that such energy and dedication from the younger generation could turn the dream of a clean and sustainable environment into reality. He also assured full administrative support for future activities.
The event was coordinated by UYN’s program coordinator Bharti Pandey, who informed that the campaign would conclude on June 5. She added that a similar green walk had been organized earlier on November 9, 2024, in the forests of Balta.
The campaign, which lasted for nearly two hours, resulted in the collection of 24 bags of garbage. Participants included Neelima Bhatt from Aman Sanstha, UYN member Tanuja Agri, numerous Anganwadi and ASHA workers from surrounding villages, midday meal staff, and students from SSJ University. All attendees pledged to continue their efforts for environmental conservation and sustainable practices.
